June 4

Location: Henderson Lake Nature Preserve.
Meeting Location: *Henderson Lake Nature Preserve parking lot.

*To get to Henderson Lake Nature Preserve, from U.S. 31, take Fruitvale Road east for a quarter of a mile. 
Turn left (north) onto Henderson Road and proceed about one half mile to the park entrance on the left (west) side of road.

*Individuals unfamiliar with locations can meet at the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce at 10:00 a.m. to receive detailed directions or to carpool out to surrounding locations. Walks will begin at 10:30 a.m.

**July walk will be held the second Saturday (10th) due to the 4th of July parade and holiday weekend.

2009 White Lake Area Nature Walk Series Schedule

The third annual nature tours, sponsored by Alcoa-Howmet, will expose participants to knowledge of a variety of topics relating to native plants and wildlife. The walks are appropriate for adults and families. Children must be accompanied by parents.
The walking tours are free. Registration for walks is suggested, but not required.
 

• May 2 — Dune ecology and ecosystem dynamics at White River Township Barrier Dunes Sanctuary; meet at Lloyd's Landing.

• June 6 — Glacial forests and Michigan Heritage Park at Hilt's Landing; meet at Hilt's Landing parking area.

• July 11 — Dune ecology and early succession at Meinert Park; meet at Meinert Park's lower parking lot.

• Aug. 1 — Forest ecosys­tems and wildlife at Duck Lake State Park; meet at the park's pavilion.

• Sept. 5 — Drowned river mouth lakes and rivers, at the Hart-Montague recreational, trail; meet at the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce parking lot.

The walks begin at 10:30 a.m. sharp and end at about noon. For those who need directions or want to car-pool, the meeting place is the White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, 124 W. Hanson, in Whitehall at 10 a.m.
